The Kon-Tiki Museum has renewed the exhibition around Thor Heyerdahl's life and expeditions. As a technical subcontractor to Expology, Ur Solutions developed several digital installations and a local CMS setup for the museum.

The Kon-Tiki Museum was carrying out a major renewal of its exhibitions, giving the original raft a new setting and communicating the stories around Heyerdahl's work through more modern formats. The new exhibition combines a vivid ocean and sky around the raft with interactive stations, animations, digital maps, and new ways into the story of the expedition and the people around it. Expology needed a technical subcontractor capable of building stable digital installations for a physical museum environment. The solutions had to run on local hardware, support Norwegian and English, retrieve editorial content from a local CMS, and be robust enough to run on BrightSign players and screens in an exhibition with many visitors.

Ur Solutions helped Expology develop several digital installations for the exhibition: • Find the Similarities, a touch-based station where visitors compare figures and finish with a short quiz. • Hunt for Balsa!, a labyrinth game inspired by the journey in Ecuador. • Baptism of Fire, a 3D game where visitors steer the Kon-Tiki raft through wind and waves. • Experimenting with Guaraboards, where visitors explore how the boards affected the raft's direction and movement. • Deep Dive, CMS-managed screens for selected themes and stories. • Dare to Cross Boundaries, a Thor Challenge installation with dilemmas, questions, and reflection. • A local CMS and video setup on the museum's NUC server for content, languages, and media across the installations. The work ranged from touch-based stations and quiz flows to video playback, local caching, language handling, and 3D games with ocean simulation, WebGL, buoyancy, and physical input. The installations form part of the museum's new exhibition, completed in 2026.
